Here at My Dentist in Plano, we have a lot of patients that complain of having gums that are receding, or pulling back, and exposing the root surface, which can become sensitive and uncomfortable. Not only is it sensitive and uncomfortable, they can also cause deterioration and loss of bone around those teeth. In order to keep our patients here under one roof and keep our patients from having to go all around town to different specialists, I've partnered with a couple of specialists that come in and perform these root coverage, or gum lengthening, procedures right here in the office, to where we can keep everybody here and we get fantastic results and happy patients, with procedures that will cover back over their teeth and reverse the gum-loss process.

Choose the Right Kind of Procedure For Your Gum Health
We use two different techniques to treat gum recession. We can use a traditional gum graft to replace your missing gum tissue. If you’ve lost bone as well, we can place a material to spur new bone growth at the site. Our periodontist is also certified to perform a procedure called the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique.
Unlike a gum graft, no cutting or stitches are necessary with the pinhole technique. The procedure can be completed in about an hour, much faster than a graft, and healing is faster too. As convenient as that is, it’s even more so with our extended hours. You can schedule your procedure as early as 7:30 a.m. or even on a Saturday!
Don’t Ignore Gum Disease Symptoms
Gum disease is often the cause of receding gums. Bacteria gets in between the teeth and gums, causing gums to pull away from teeth. Our gum disease treatment will prevent the disease from advancing to that stage, where tooth loss can occur. We use a deep cleaning process called scaling and root planing, as well as applications of antibiotic.
Our goal is to help you keep a full, healthy smile for life and prevent tooth loss whenever possible. Call us ASAP if you’re experiencing any of these gum disease symptoms:
- Tender gums
- Pain while chewing
- Gums that bleed, when brushing teeth or at other times
- Gums that appear red instead of pink
- Bad breath that won’t go away
