During a consultation, we can decide if you’re a candidate for Invisalign treatment or invisible braces. We offer these teeth straightening procedures to patients of all ages.
Treatments used to straighten teeth
When you’re looking for orthodontic treatment that will help you achieve straight teeth, schedule a consultation with Dr. Dickson. At My Dentist in Plano, we offer two different approaches to teeth straightening:
Invisible braces: Similar to traditional metal braces, they uses brackets and wires to move teeth to their desired positions. The difference is that we use ceramic clear wires and brackets to get the same results you want in an undetectable way.
Invisalign treatment: When you have bite or alignment issues, Invisalign treatment can help correct crooked, overlapping, or crowded teeth. It uses clear plastic aligners that are switched out every few weeks to gradually and continuously move teeth to their right positions. These aligners are only removed when eating or drinking, and for daily brushing and flossing. Treatment is completed in about one year’s time.
Differences between clear braces and Invisalign treatment
Both invisible braces and Invisalign treatment are similar in that they help to straighten teeth. However, Invisalign treatment is more transparent, as you can clearly see the changes occurring. Brackets and wires used in invisible braces are worn permanently, unlike clear teeth aligners used during Invisalign treatment. This makes it easier during oral hygiene habits, such as brushing and flossing. Clear braces take fewer adjustments, while Invisalign treatment requires more frequent trips to My Dentist in Plano to get new trays.
Clear braces are more effective for those with more extensive cases. Invisalign treatment can treat many cases, but not the most severe ones. Unlike the clear teeth aligners used during Invisalign treatment, clear braces can irritate your soft tissue. Also, they can’t always fix bottom teeth as the ceramic material used is harder than tooth enamel. This means that if your top teeth rub against the brace on the bottom, it will wear them down.
